ECC to S/4HANA migration services

Mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0 ends at the end of 2027. We help you pick the right path, clean up custom code before it moves, and run the migration with automated regression tests and rehearsed cutovers. AI agents do the heavy lifting on code analysis and remediation; senior SAP engineers decide and review every change.

Key highlights

  • SAP ECC 6.0 mainstream maintenance ends on 31 December 2027; optional extended maintenance runs to the end of 2030 at an additional fee.
  • There are three paths: new implementation (greenfield), system conversion (brownfield) and selective data transition. The right one depends on your processes, history and custom code.
  • We start with SAP Readiness Check and a custom code analysis, so the estimate is based on your system, not on averages.
  • AI agents classify unused code, propose fixes for simplification items and draft test scripts; senior engineers review every change.
  • We size the migration in a short assessment, typically 2 to 4 weeks, before you commit to the full programme.

What makes ECC migrations hard

The technical conversion is the easy part. The cost sits in custom code, data, interfaces and testing, and in deciding what to keep.

The deadline is closer than the plan. Mainstream maintenance ends at the end of 2027, and the extended options cost more and come with conditions. Programmes that start late lose the choice of approach.
Greenfield or brownfield, argued for months. Finance wants history kept, operations wants processes redesigned, IT wants the least risk. Without facts from your own system, the decision becomes a debate.
Custom code nobody wants to touch. Years of Z programs, enhancements and modifications, a large share never executed, and the rest written against tables and transactions that S/4HANA has simplified.
Simplification items found in testing. Business partner conversion for customers and vendors, the new general ledger and material ledger, changed data models. Each one is manageable early and painful late.
Downtime the business cannot accept. A large database and a weekend cutover window that may not be enough. Nobody has measured the real runtime because nobody has run a full rehearsal.
Interfaces assumed to just work. IDocs, RFCs and file interfaces to banks, EDI partners and warehouses need checking against the new release, and some depend on middleware that is also nearing end of maintenance.
Scope

How we migrate ECC to S/4HANA

A fact based decision on approach, then remediation, conversion and testing run as one programme.

Readiness and approach assessment

SAP Readiness Check, usage analysis and an interface inventory, turned into a written comparison of greenfield, brownfield and selective data transition for your landscape, with effort and risk for each.

Custom code remediation

ABAP Test Cockpit checks against the simplification database and the Custom Code Migration app. Unused code is retired, the rest is fixed or replaced by standard, with AI agents drafting fixes for review.

Simplification items and finance

Business partner conversion for customers and vendors, finance data migration to the universal journal, credit management, material ledger and other mandatory changes handled with the process owners.

Data transition

Full system conversion with downtime optimisation, or selective data transition of chosen company codes, history and processes, with data cleansing and reconciliation reports signed off by finance.

Automated regression testing

Your critical end to end processes captured as automated tests before migration, run against every rehearsal, so the converted system is proved to behave as expected.

Cutover rehearsals

At least two full mock conversions on production sized copies, measured runtimes, a minute by minute cutover plan and a fallback decision point agreed with the business.

How we deliver

From assessment to go live

  1. 01
    Assess

Readiness Check, custom code and usage analysis, interface inventory and stakeholder interviews. Output: recommended approach, roadmap and estimate.

  2. 02
    Prepare the source system

Retire unused code, clean master data, start business partner preparation and resolve simplification items that can be fixed in ECC before conversion.

  3. 03
    Convert and remediate

Sandbox and development conversions, custom code fixes, interface updates and Fiori activation, with automated regression tests run after each round.

  4. 04
    Rehearse and cut over

Mock conversions on production sized data, timed cutover runbook, go live and hypercare through the first month end close.

Deadlines and controls to know

Dates below are as published by SAP at the time of writing. Confirm your own maintenance terms with SAP, as eligibility rules apply.

ECC mainstream maintenance ends 2027 Optional extended maintenance to 2030 Transition option to 2033 (conditions apply) SAP PO 7.5 mainstream maintenance ends 2027 SOX friendly change logs Financial reconciliation sign off GDPR and UK GDPR

2027, 2030 and 2033. Mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0 ends at the end of 2027. SAP offers optional extended maintenance from 2028 to the end of 2030 at a higher maintenance fee, and a separate paid transition option for customers moving to SAP S/4HANA Cloud private edition, which carries eligibility conditions. Plan around 2027 and treat the later dates as contingency.

Middleware has a deadline too. SAP Process Orchestration 7.5 also reaches the end of mainstream maintenance at the end of 2027, with optional extended maintenance to 2030. If your interfaces run on PI or PO, we plan the move to SAP Integration Suite alongside the S/4HANA migration.

Financial data must reconcile. Balances, open items and asset values are reconciled between source and target at every mock conversion, with reports your finance team and auditors sign off before go live.

FAQ

Common questions

Choose based on your own system facts, not a rule of thumb. Brownfield (system conversion) keeps history and processes and is usually fastest when processes still fit. Greenfield suits companies that want to redesign around SAP standard. Selective data transition sits between them, for example to merge or split company codes. Our assessment compares all three for your landscape.
Mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0 ends on 31 December 2027. Optional extended maintenance is available to the end of 2030 at an additional fee, and SAP offers a paid transition option beyond that only for customers moving to S/4HANA Cloud private edition, with conditions. Check your contract with SAP for your exact terms.
It depends mainly on custom code volume, data size, interfaces and the approach chosen, so we estimate it from your system. A short assessment produces a written scope, timeline and estimate. Our engagement models are on the pricing page.
Typically 6 to 12 months for a single instance system conversion, and longer for large or multi system landscapes and greenfield redesigns. The assessment itself usually takes 2 to 4 weeks.
You do. You negotiate S/4HANA licences or a RISE with SAP subscription directly with SAP. RG INSYS is not an SAP partner or reseller and charges only for migration services.
The team is in India with at least 4 hours of overlap with your working day, and cutover weekends run in your timezone. AI agents analyse code and draft fixes and tests in development systems only; a senior engineer reviews every change, and business data is not sent to external AI services.
