SAP problems we see in manufacturing
Most manufacturing SAP systems were built well a decade or more ago. The plant has changed since, and the system has been patched to keep up rather than redesigned.
SAP that knows what the shop floor actually did. We implement and migrate SAP S/4HANA for manufacturers, connect production planning, quality and maintenance to the MES and machines on the line, and clean up the custom code that makes every upgrade painful. Senior SAP and integration engineers own the design, AI coding agents carry the volume, and every line is reviewed by a human.
Key highlights
Most manufacturing SAP systems were built well a decade or more ago. The plant has changed since, and the system has been patched to keep up rather than redesigned.
We work across the core manufacturing modules and the integrations that tie SAP to the plant floor.
Master data for BOMs, routings, work centres and production versions, MRP and MRP Live, and embedded PP/DS in S/4HANA for finite capacity scheduling, sequencing and setup optimisation on the detailed scheduling planning board.
Production orders, BOMs and routings sent down to SAP Digital Manufacturing or a third party MES, with confirmations, goods movements and scrap posted back. Retry queues mean nothing is lost if either side is offline.
Inspection plans, inspection lots on goods receipt and in process, results recording, usage decisions, batch classification and quality notifications, with lab or inspection station results flowing into SAP QM automatically.
Functional locations, equipment, maintenance plans and work orders in SAP PM, with condition monitoring and IIoT alerts raising notifications automatically instead of by phone after a breakdown.
Configurable materials and object dependencies for make to order products, and engineering BOM to manufacturing BOM handover from PLM systems such as Siemens Teamcenter or PTC Windchill into SAP.
Usage analysis and ATC checks on your ABAP, then each object is retired, adapted for S/4HANA simplifications, or rebuilt as a clean side by side extension on SAP BTP so the core stays upgradeable.
We review your system, custom code usage, interfaces to MES, PLM and machines, and the planning and quality processes per plant. Output: a written migration approach, scope and risk list.
Fit to standard workshops for PP, QM, PM and inventory, a target integration architecture for the shop floor, and a decision on each custom object before any build starts.
Configuration, extensions on SAP BTP, interface build and data migration with repeated mock loads. A pilot plant goes live first, running in parallel checks against current reporting.
Hypercare, then ongoing support with clear response times. We roll the template to further plants and add PP/DS scheduling, predictive maintenance or analytics once the core is stable.
Manufacturing SAP systems carry financial controls, product traceability and, increasingly, e-invoicing obligations. We design for them inside the project rather than after go live.
Financial controls survive the migration. Inventory valuation, production order settlement and period end steps are tested against your SOX and internal control matrix, and roles are designed so segregation of duties conflicts are resolved before go live, not found by the auditor.
Traceability from lot to shipment. Batch management, QM results and goods movements are linked so a where used or where from query on a raw material lot can be answered from SAP, supporting ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 audits and customer complaints.
E-invoicing mandates are in scope. Germany already requires businesses to receive structured e-invoices, with issuing obligations phasing in from 1 January 2027 and 2028, and France started phased B2B e-invoicing in September 2026. We plan output formats and SAP Document Compliance or your chosen provider into the design.
Standard SAP manufacturing scope first, with integration tooling that keeps the core clean.
